Lindisfarne Castle Northumberland

Lindisfarne

Accessible at low tide via a causeway, Lindisfarne or Holy Island is the jewel in Northuumberland's crown. The tiny island is unmissable. Not only is the castle one of the most iconic structures in the UK, the priory, narrow streets, gift shops, galleries and cafe's make for a fabulous day out. The home of St Cuthbert, Lindisfarne delights with it's simply spellbinding scenery and wild tranquility. The Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve has protected tidal mudflats, salt marshes and dunes, home to thousands of ducks, geese and wading birds throughout the winter months. It is a major wintering ground for pale-bellied brent geese flying in from Svalbard (Spitsbergen). Holy Island is around 34 miles north of Felton via the A1.
