Ingram Valley

The Visitor Centre at Ingram is situated in the Breamish Valley at the foot of the Cheviot Hills.

Cafe and Visitor Centre

Ingram is ideal base for starting out on a number of hill walks that take in a number of ancient hill fort settlements, or for just spending a day exploring the valley where you can picnic beside the river or walk up to Linhope Spout, a well-known waterfall.

As well as receiving good advice from staff at Ingram Visitor Centre, you can also watch a video or just browse amongst the many leaflets both local and regional. The Centre is fully accessible for both wheelchairs and prams (parking for blue badge holders provided) and there is also baby changing facilities and toilets within the building. A wide range of gifts and basic refreshments can all be purchased here. A small wet woodland at the centre has common tits, nuthatch etc and the Breamish river will hold common sandpiper (Main pic) in spring / summer. Look for them standing on rocks in the river and listen for their delightful call.

For birds of prey, take the footpath to the wether hill.Fawdon dene runs below both west hill and old fawdon hill. Birds of prey will always position themselves into the prevailing wind so this is a good site for kestrel, buzzard and possible red kite. The path follows a circular route (two - three hours) but takes in farmland to the east which is also good kite habitat.
