Set within the Northumberland area of outstanding natural beauty, Craster is a wondrful fishing village with spectacular views to nearby Dunstanburgh Castle. The Jolly Fisherman is an award winning seafood restaurant, whilst opposite are the smoke kilns of the World famous Craster oak-smoked Kippers. There are two popular walks from Craster. Take the Craster and Howick circular trail (four miles) and visit Howick Hall Gardens – rated as one of the top 5 coastal gardens in the country or walk the stunning Northumberland coastal path to the ruined coastal fortress of Dunstanburgh Castle. Craster was used many times as a location for the ITV series Vera. For birdwatching interest, the cliffs to the north side of the castle has a large seabird colony in spring and summer, whilst the Arnold Memorial reserve (next to Craster car park) is a migration hot-spot in the autumn. Craster is 15 miles from Felton via the A1, but again we would recommend taking the more leisurely coastal route.
